Entsorga West Virginia expected to convert waste into fuel

Local This is the United States first plant of its kind

BERKELEY COUNTY, West Virginia - Berkeley County's Entsorga West Virginia project is the first of its kind in the United States.

The method comes from Europe and is expected to convert plastic and other carbon-based materials into fuel.

According to officials, the project will reduce pollutants around the area and increase Berkeley County's recycling rate. One official says fuel produced from the renewable landfill will be sellable to the cement industry.

"We create the fuel, it's basically a big composting process and then we use mechanical technology to size it, mix it and blend it to get it to the specifications," said Emily Dyson, Entsorga West Virginia project manager.
